County Agencies - Magistrates' Court Service
The Magistrates' Courts deal with more than 97% of all criminal cases, and are an integral part of the local community. In addition to criminal work, the magistrates also deal with licensing applications and family work, and many other different types of cases and applications. The Lancashire Magistrates' Courts Committee (LMCC) is responsible for the effective and efficient administration of the County's Magistrates' Courts in twelve locations. Our criminal justice system has two overarching aims
- To reduce crime and the fear of crime
- and to dispense justice fairly and efficiently, and thereby to promote confidence in the system
We aim to provide in Lancashire a Magistrates' Courts Service that is:
- of high quality,
- cost effective,
- responsive to the needs of the public,
- and consistent with government objectives.
We work in partnership with other agencies including the Police, the CPS, the Lancashire County Council, the Probation Service, Youth Offending Teams and others to deliver these objectives, both in the general running of the criminal justice system in the County, and on specific initiatives such as addressing street crime, and the Lancashire Road Safety Project.
