County Agencies - Alcohol: Protecting Children and Improving Communities

About the project:
The countywide project is primarily funded by Lancashire Children’s Fund and is underwritten by the County Council’s crime and disorder budget. Funding covers the lifetime of the project up to 31st March 2006.
The multi-agency project is managed by a Steering Group consisting of Social Services, Trading Standards, Youth and Community Service, Schools Advisory Service, Voluntary sector, Police, Primary Care Trust, Lancashire Youth Offending Team, Lancashire Children’s Fund and the Drug Action Team. The project has incorporated many of the government’s aims and approaches outlined in the recently published ‘Alcohol Harm Reduction Strategy’.
The project will:
- Raise young people’s awareness of alcohol issues through a countywide consultation and marketing campaign
- Offer a countywide co-ordinated approach, developing best practice protocols to tackle local community alcohol-related issues
- Produce a mapping report of both alcohol related service provision and intervention opportunities targeted at young people
- Improve the co-ordination and promote the development of service provision in relation to young people and communities
