Countywide Initiatives - Police and Communities Together

As you will be aware the Constabulary has achieved its Ambition to be the ‘best police service in the country’ after the recent HMIC inspection. Key to delivering this Ambition has been ‘community engagement’. For many years, police officers in Lancashire and, more recently, Police Community Safety Officers, have been working hard to deliver a wide range of work to solve community problems. The time is now right to build on that success to further enhance the reputation of the Constabulary.
The next ‘stage’ is to identify good practice in Lancashire, to ‘brand’ those approaches and to make sure that they are delivered in the same way right across the County. To do this we will introduce ‘Police and Communities Together’ or ‘PACT’. This will be the theme for ‘community engagement’ and there will be a number of key approaches that will be the same no matter where you are in Lancashire.
The introduction of PACT does not mean that Community Beat Managers and Police Community Safety Officers have failed to engage effectively with communities. It does mean that the time is right to take the best of what is happening in Lancashire and ensure it happens everywhere with proper support and direction under a common "banner".
