Fylde District - Crime Audit 2002-2005

The Fylde Borough Community Safety Partnership has produced its second Crime and Disorder Audit for this area. The previous audit led to a three-year Community Safety Strategy, which is due to be concluded at the end of March 2002. That Strategy identified a number of specific priorities and stretching targets were set which we had hoped to achieve during the three-year life of the Strategy. However, changes to the rules governing crime recording on both a national and local basis, and changes to the definition of what activity amounts to nuisance and disorder, have confused any success that has been achieved.

There is no doubt that the Audit and subsequent Strategy have brought together a number of key agencies and other important organisations and this has ensured that some of the suggested solutions will lead to long-term sustained reductions.

This audit has highlighted work that is already being undertaken and should be able to open rather than simply abandon the previous three years good work and lurching towards other solutions. We are further reminded throughout the audit that quality of life issues and the fear of crime must be given equal status with crime reduction initiatives. It is of little use if the numbers of crime and disorder incidents are reduced, but this does not have a positive impact on those who live, work in, or visit the Borough of Fylde.
