Lancaster District - Partnership Details.
Chair of the Partnership - Cllr. Eileen Blamire, Lancaster City Council
The Lancaster District Community Safety Partnership (CSP) was formed in autumn 1998 in response to the Crime & Disorder Act 1998. The vision of the Partnership is to ensure the district is a safe and pleasant place in which to live, work and visit.
In Autumn 2004 a comprehensive audit of crime and disorder issues that affect the people of the district was prepared by the Partnership. From the results of this audit the CSP was able to identify and proritise its objectives for the three years between 2005-2008. These objectives are the basis of the Partnership’s current Community Safety Strategy and are as follows:
- To reduce crime – particulary criminal damage and alcohol related violent crime
- To reassure the public and reduce the fear of crime
- To reduce Anti-Social Behaviour
- To reduce the harm caused by illegal drugs including substantially increasing the number of drug misusing offenders entering treatment through the criminal justice system.
- To improve community safety issues relating to young people, both as victims and offenders.
- To reduce the levels of domestic abuse across the district
The Partnership currently operates through Strategic and Executive Groups which set direction and policy and oversee the implementation of the Community Safety Strategy. A Multi-agency Problem Solving (MAPS) Group analyises current problems and implements solutions in the key geographical areas of the district as agreed by the Strategic group. A number of thematic groups also add specialism in areas such as youth, alcohol related violent crime, substance misuse and domestic violence.
