Pendle - Community Safety Plan
This Plan sets out what the Pendle Community Safety Partnership will be doing to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in the Borough during 2008/9. It is based on our Annual Strategic Assessment which provides the evidence for our approach. Both documents will be reviewed annually to take account of changes to patterns of crime, anti-social behaviour, community concerns and national priorities.
We want to build upon the excellent performance of our last Community Safety Reduction Strategy which ended in April this year (2008). Over the three years of the strategy there were reductions in priority crimes of over a quarter (which includes burglary, car crime and robbery). We also improved our approach to anti-social behaviour, established a ground breaking Multi Agency Problem Solving (MAPS) team and increased the number of drug users in treatment. We worked in partnership with local people in neighbourhoods to improve problems and launched an annual Local Area Grants scheme to encourage local community and voluntary action on crime and anti-social behaviour. We were officially recognised by the Home Office as a high performing partnership in 2007 and 2008, one of only a handful across the country.
Despite significant improvements in the levels of crime, people’s perceptions of safety have not improved at the same rate - this is the case nationally and locally. It will be a major challenge to reassure local people and change these perceptions and continue to address those issues which cause most concern. We will achieve this by dealing with immediate problems quickly and taking the opportunities to work with partners on more long term prevention.
The Community Safety Partnership has a key role to play in the wider approach to improving the quality of life of Pendle residents and building respect between individuals and communities. Please give us your support to help us achieve our goal of a safer Pendle.
