Rossendale - Crime Audit

Welcome to the third Crime & Disorder Audit for Rossendale. The Audit identifies the crime and disorder issues within the Borough and will assist in the production of the priorities and targets for the Crime & Disorder Strategy for the next three years (2005-08).

It also sets out what the Partnership has achieved over the last three years and what is still required to improve the quality of life for all the communities of Rossendale.

Criminal damage is identified as the highest crime category for Rossendale followed by violent crime and vehicle crime. Anti-social behaviour, young people and alcohol issues are a great concern to the residents of Rossendale and speeding vehicles was named by over 50% of respondents to the East Lancashire Community Safety Survey.

The current crime figures for 2004 show a large decrease in burglary and vehicle crime, however people are still concerned about the security of their property and we will look to address these concerns over the next three years...

A lot of good work has gone on over the last three years to reduce crime in the district through Government funded projects, many of which are outlined in this Audit. Some examples are; the appointment of an Anti-social Behaviour Officer to co-ordinate the work of all agencies in tackling the problems; target hardening schemes for victims of domestic burglary; education programmes aimed at young people who are at risk of offending with particular emphasis on substance misuse.
