South Ribble - Partnership Details

The South Ribble Community Safety Partnership was established in September 1998 in response to the Crime and Disorder Act of the same year. South Ribble is part of the Southern Division of the Lancashire Constabulary along with West Lancashire and Chorley.

The current membership of the Partnership is the Borough Council, County Council, Police, Primary Care Trust, Probation Service, Fire and Rescue Service, Youth Offending Team, District Drug Service, Lancashire Drug Action Team, Police Authority, Housing Associations, Victim Support, Connexions and Garth and Wymott Prisons.

The Partnership currently operates through a Strategic Group which sets direction and policy, a Steering Group which prepares and oversees the implementation of the Community Safety Strategy, a Multi-Agency Problem Solving Team which analyse current problems and suggests solutions, and a number of thematic groups which add specialism in areas such as youth, drugs and domestic violence.

The Partnership has a statutory duty to produce a Community Safety Strategy every three years. This latest Strategy sets targets and action plans for tackling crime and disorder in the years 2002 - 2005.

The Community Safety Partnership's aims are:

  • To develop a safer environment for the community of South Ribble.
  • To involve the people of South Ribble in Community Safety.
  • To enhance the confidence in South Ribble as a safe place to live, work and visit.
  • To further develop the multi-agency approach in support Community Safety to South ribble.
