Wyre District - Partnership Details
The Crime and Disorder Act 1998 requires the Police, Wyre Borough Council, and Lancashire County Council to work together, in partnership with other agencies, to develop and implement a strategy for reducing crime and disorder.
In accordance with the Act, the Wyre Community Safety Partnership undertook an audit of local crime and disorder in Wyre. The audit findings were made available to the public and consultation was undertaken to ensure that the contents truly represented the crime and disorder problems in Wyre. The purpose of the audit was to help partnerships set strategic targets to ensure that the strategy reflects the outcome of the audit.
The Audit was undertaken in October 2001 and identified nine priority issues. The Community Safety Strategy is designed to address these issues in the Wyre Borough area. The priority issues are as follows:
- To reduce crime
- To reduce domestic burglaries
- To reduce vehicle crime
- To reduce violent crime and anti-social behaviour
- To reassure our communities and reduce the vulnerability of those most at risk
- To address young people's issues and associated community safety
- To tackle the causes and effects of the misuse of drugs and alcohol
(0-17 years inclusive) - To reduce the number of road casualties in Wyre
- To reduce the incidence and consequence of fire on the community
Improving community safety and reducing the fear of crime is a top priority for everyone and this strategy provides a clear framework for all the key partners to work together in Wyre over the next three years (2002– 2005). The Strategy sets clear objectives against which our performance on community safety can be measured. It will ensure that resources are effectively co-ordinated and that community safety activity helps to establish a high profile within the borough. We are confident that this Strategy document reflects the priorities of our partner agencies and the community and provides a solid base for continuing efforts to reduce crime and improve the quality of life for people who live work and visit Wyre.
