Wyre District - Community Safety Strategy 2002 - 2005

What is Community Safety?

Within Wyre we define community safety as:

"The concept of community-based action is to inhibit and remedy the causes and consequences of criminal, intimidatory and other related anti-social behaviour. Its purpose is to secure sustainable reductions in crime and the fear of crime in local communities. Its approach is based on the formation of multi-agency partnerships between the public, private and voluntary sectors to formulate and introduce community based measures against crime".

The Wyre Community Safety Strategy . . .

…sets out how the Wyre Community Safety Partnership intends to reduce the levels of crime and disorder in the Wyre area. It involves the work of numerous agencies and individuals. It is not intended to cover all the crime reduction work that takes place in Wyre, but instead to focus on identified priorities that have potential benefits for the community and that achieve the aims of a number of different agencies. The Strategy needs to be revised every three years, and this document contains the first such revision, and so contains comments on progress with the first strategy.
