Wyre District - Community Safety Strategy

In Wyre we are fortunate enough to experience generally low levels of crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour. This being so, however, does not detract from the Partnership’s commitment to reduce the levels in those crime areas where we can and sustain levels in those areas, which have already experienced reductions. levels of crime and disorder in their own district. Audits were produced using mostly Police statistics. Priorities arose from these audits and the public were consulted as to whether they believed them to be correct. From those audits and consultations

Our key areas at present are alcohol related crime and disorder and anti-social behaviour and as such concentration will made in these areas. That said, we will continue to sustain levels in those areas where crime has fallen over the past three years, such as domestic burglary and vehicle crime. Domestic violence is often a hidden crime because many of those who experience domestic violence do not report it.

Although Wyre has experienced relatively low levels of drug trafficking and offences of possession have stayed relatively static, there is often a link between substance misuse and other crimes. This is an area where real inroads can be made into crime levels by getting those involved in substance misuse into treatment early. The Partnership will continue to address this issue. The Strategy has set clear objectives and targets, and sets out a number of approaches we will use to attain these.
