Overview

In July 2002 the Lancashire Countywide Community Safety Website was launched. The SaferLancashire website www.saferlancashire.co.uk was developed to promote the work of each district Community Safety Partnership and link this together with information from other strategic and local partners such as the Lancashire Constabulary, County Council, Connexions, Youth Offending Team, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, Drug Action Team, Magistrates Courts’, Health etc. etc.

The site is organisational neutral and provides a gateway to:-
  • Generic information and advice for the public on community safety.
  • Information provided by all fourteen Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships (CDRPs). Each have their own web page which includes details of their local community safety strategy and audit documents, crime reduction initiatives and contact details and much more.
  • Specific details of agencies working together to reduce crime eg Lancashire Constabulary, YOTs, DATs, Fire & Rescue Service, Health Service etc.
  • Local support Networks i.e. Crimestoppers, GRIP, Lancs Road Safety Partnership and PACT.
  • Links to Regional, Government, Voluntary Organisations and other external sites

The key purpose is to provide information to the public and interested bodies, but there is also a restricted area for partners to disseminate and exchange information, to house guidance, inform on funding opportunities etc (Members Access Area).

The website has been recognised regionally and nationally as an example of good practice and was featured in the Crime Reduction College Digest – April 2003 and more recently in the LGiU publication “ Spreading the Word “ – on developing effective communications for CDRPs

SaferLancashire is constantly being developed and updated and recently we seen the inclusion of a “Message of the Month “, “Latest News” and a Young People section which is a junction page to other support websites for young people. The Community Safety Team at Lancashire County Council have a supply of bookmarks promoting the website and copies are available from the Team.

Statement

The Safer Lancashire Website Project Manager, Pam Smith said “We in Lancashire are proud of the immense expansion of the SaferLancashire website since its launch in July 2002. It is a clear, comprehensive and easy to use site and provides a host of community safety advice and information to partner agencies, the general public and local Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships. Evidence to date reveals that users are making hits within the site averaging 100,000 per month. Working together with our partners is an effective way to reduce crime and the fear of crime in the community.”
